Medieval defence wall

The defence wall dates from the 14th century. It was built along the route of the former medieval highway, using basalt stone quarried from the castle hill.

Today, some 600m of the wall ares till conserved. The wall is high and is crowned with square merlons. The towers are connected by a walkway. The towers are cylindrical and semi-cylindrical in form. Ten of them have been preserved, included the Convent Tower and Friars Tower, which were part of an outer enclosure. The Barcelona Gate is one of the four entrances to the walled town.

The Hostalric’s medieval wall is an heritage element to visit at your own pace with the visit with the key to the town. Take a walk along the path and remember the past times like Laura!
