The old walled precinct of Hostalric preserves the town planning that follows the route of the Ral road (Plaça dels Bous, Carrer Major and Plaça de la Vila), 10 medieval towers and 600 meters of wall, which extends from Plaça dels Bous to Barcelona Gate.
The wall was built with basalt stone taken from the castle hill. The wall is high and ends with square battlements. Behind this was the patrol path that connected the towers. The towers are cylindrical and semi-cylindrical and ten of them are preserved, including the convent and the Friars, which were part of an outer enclosure.
The walled complex had four doors: the Barcelona portal, demolished at the beginning of the 20th century and rebuilt in 1969; the one in Girona, located at the entrance to Carrer Major; that of the Ollers, located at the far end of Carrer del Forn; and that of Vinyes, in the railway corridor.
